Privacy Policy
Welcome to Openschool! We'rxe an educational tool designed to help K-12 students stay organized and complete their assignments across different educational platforms like Khan Academy, IXL, and other curriculum tools. Think of us as your smart assignment companion that helps you stay on top of your work while using AI to provide helpful suggestions and keep parents and teachers informed of your progress.
We take student privacy seriously and are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other applicable privacy laws. This Privacy Policy explains in straightforward language what information we collect to help students complete their assignments, how we use it, and what rights you have regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect to Help Students Complete Assignments
To help students effectively manage and complete their school assignments, we collect several types of information. Here's what we need and why it helps students succeed:
1.1 Assignment and Learning Activity Data
To help students complete their work and provide smart assignment assistance:
Assignment Content Screenshots: When students work on assignments in Khan Academy, IXL, or other platforms, Openschool captures screenshots of the assignment content. This helps our AI understand what the student is working on so we can provide relevant help and accurately track assignment completion.
Work Session Information: We record which assignments students are working on, how much time they spend, what problems they attempt, and which pages they visit. This helps students see their own progress and helps our AI provide better suggestions for completing work efficiently.
Assignment Completion Status: We track when assignments are completed across different platforms so students have one central place to see what's done and what still needs attention.
Learning Session Details: During study sessions, we record the websites visited, page titles, timestamps, and activity metadata to help students understand their work patterns and stay focused on completing assignments.
Progress Patterns: Our AI analyzes how students work through assignments to identify when they're moving quickly, when they might be stuck, and when they're making great progress. This helps us suggest the best next steps for completing work.
1.2 AI-Powered Assignment Assistance Data
We use artificial intelligence to help students complete their assignments more effectively:
Smart Assignment Analysis: Assignment screenshots and work session data are processed by AI services (OpenAI GPT-4 and Anthropic Claude) to understand what students are working on and generate helpful suggestions for completing assignments.
Personalized Study Recommendations: Based on how students work through assignments, our AI suggests the most efficient next steps, helpful resources, and strategies for completing work successfully.
Cross-Platform Assignment Connection: Our AI analyzes work across different educational platforms to help students see connections between assignments and manage all their work in one place.
Progress Summaries: Our AI automatically generates easy-to-understand summaries showing what students have accomplished, what's pending, and what to focus on next.
1.3 Student Account Information
To personalize the assignment experience and keep accounts secure:
Basic Student Information: Name, grade level, and school to ensure assignments and recommendations are age-appropriate and relevant.
Parent and Teacher Contact Information: Email addresses and phone numbers so parents and teachers can stay informed about assignment completion and to verify that only authorized adults have access.
Account Security Data: Login credentials and secure session information to protect student accounts from unauthorized access.
Device Information: iOS device details needed to ensure the app works properly on your device.
1.4 App Performance Data
To make sure Openschool works smoothly:
Usage Analytics: Information about which features students use most, error reports, and performance data to fix bugs and improve the app.
Technical Details: iOS version, device model, and screen resolution for compatibility testing and troubleshooting.
Connection Information: Network data required to connect with educational platforms and ensure secure communication.
